Split Sections

A section of road is commonly homogenous; that is, the surface type, functional classification, date construction, number of lanes, and other characteristics are the same throughout the section. If some of the characteristics are changed over part of the section, the management section should be split to reflect these changes.

The first screen that appears when you select Split Section(s) from the utilities menu on the main screen is the Split Management Section screen. This screen is shown below.

Select the section you wish to split from the list box on the left-hand side of the screen. When you have selected the desired section, click on the Split Section button to continue or, click on the Done/Cancel button to exit the Split Section(s) utility.

If you choose to continue, the following screen appears.

This screen asks you to indicate the number of sections you want to split the selected management section into. Type the number of sections and then click on the OK button.

The next screen that appears allows you to define the new management sections. This screen, titled Split Screen, is depicted below.

The number of rows that appear on this screen corresponds to the number you entered on the previous screen. The fields that are on this screen are defined below.

Section ID Section ID contains the identifier that is assigned to each new management section.
Begin Location Begin Location stores the name of a cross street or other landmark that can be found at the beginning point of each new section.
End Location End Location contains the name of a cross street or other landmark that can be found at the ending point of each new management section.
Length Length indicates the length of the new management section. The combined lengths of the split sections cannot be greater than the length of the original section.

After you enter the necessary information in the grid, click the OK button to perform the split or click the Cancel button to return to the first screen in the Split Section(s) utility.
