Inspection Units - Inspection Tab
  • The Inspection Units screen is used to enter distress type, severity and quantity information for individual inspection units inspected for management sections. A picture of the Inspection Unit screen is shown below.

    Filter Button
    The Filter button brings up the filter screen so the user can create filters.
    Clear the current filter Button
    This button will remove the current filter if a filter is being used.
    Restore Inspection Units
    The Restore Inspections button will restore Inspections in Inspection Unit History to the Inspection Unit Table for modification and re-calculation. All associated distresses are also restored.
    Inspection Unit Errors
    The Inspection Errors option displays management sections that contain inspection unit errors are displayed along with a brief description of the error.

    In order to view the management units containing inspection unit errors:
    1. Click on the Inspection Errors button or, select Inspection Unit Errors from the View menu on the menu bar.
    2. After selecting the toolbar option, the list of management sections in the combo box will only include sections that have inspection units with errors.
    3. After correcting all errors, you can return to a complete list of management sections in the combo box list by selecting the Inspection Errors toolbar button again (this button is a toggle button and toggles between management sections only with errors and all management sections.

  • The top portion of the inspection unit screen is management section information. The fields in this section cannot be edited or deleted. A management section can be selected by clicking on the combo box and scrolling to the desired section; Inspection unit data can then be entered for that section. A description of these fields follows.

    Mgt. Section
    The Mgt Section drop down provides a listing of all of the management sections in the system. This list is used to select the desired management section that is desired to enter inspections units for. This list includes Street ID, Section ID, Street Name and Road Number.
    Street ID
    Street ID is a unique identifier for a road or street.
    Section ID
    Section ID is a unique identifier for a portion of a road or street defining a management section.
    Street Name
    Street Name displays the full name of the street including Street, Way, Court, etc.
    Beg. Location
    Beg. Location is the point that defines the beginning of the section, usually the name of a cross street or other landmark.
    End Location
    End Location stores the point that defines the end of a section, usually the name of a cross street or other landmark.
    Mileposts
    The Milepost fields indicate the point on the road where the section begins and the point where a section ends.
    Surface Type
    Surface Type contains the type of surface for a specific section of road. The options for this field are: A for asphalt concrete, C for asphalt concrete over Portland cement concrete, S for surface treatment, O for overlays of asphalt concrete, or P for Portland cement concrete.
    Length
    Length contains the length of a particular section of the road.
    Width
    Width contains the average width of a section in feet.
    Area (sq. ft.)
    Area contains the area of a section in square feet. This is automatically calculated using the values that are entered in the Length and Width fields. However, if the section is irregularly shaped the area can be entered by the user.
    # of Slabs
    This field stores the total number of slabs that are included in a management section.
    Slab Length
    Slab Length displays the length of the slabs that are found in a management section.
    Slab Width
    Slab Width contains the width of the slabs included in a management section

  • The bottom portion of the Inspection Unit screen is divided into 2 tabs -- the Inspection tab and the Inspection History tab.

    Inspection tab

    A description of each field on the Inspection tab follows. The number of required fields varies depending on whether or not there are distresses in the section. The fields that are required regardless of the distresses are shown in bold. The fields that are required when distresses are present, appear with a note beneath the name of the field.

    No. of Inspection Units
    No. of Inspection Units displays the recommended number of inspection units to be inspected for this section (10% of the total number).
    Inspection Unit
    Inspection Unit increments the inspection unit records. Each time you add a new inspection unit to a road section, the number in this field increments by one. You can accept the number assigned or enter another number. You cannot enter a number that has previously been assigned to a record.
    No Distresses
    If there are no distresses in the section, click the No Distress box.
    Special
    If this box is checked it is an indication that this inspection unit is in some way non-representative of the section as a whole, and would receive a different maintenance/rehabilitation treatment from the rest of the section.
    Date
    Today's date is filled in by default. If the inspection date is different from today's date, type in the correct date or locate it using the date combo box.
    Inspection Unit Width
    Inspection Unit Width is the width of the Inspected unit.
    Inspection Unit Length
    Inspection Unit Length refers to the length of the inspection unit. This field is filled in automatically using information from the database. If the length of the inspection unit is different from this figure, type in a new length.
    Inspection Area
    Inspection Area is the total area of the inspection unit. The inspection unit area field is filled in automatically using information from the database. If the area of the inspection unit is different from this figure, type in a new area.
    This button will add a new, blank entry in the distress grid.
    This button will delete the Distress infromation in the highlighted distress grid.
    Inspection Error
    This field will display any errors that occurred during PCI Calculations for the selected inspected section.


    The grid fields are defined below.

    Type
    (Required only when distresses are present.) Type displays the type of distress that is present on an inspection unit. Type can be entered using the options in the drop-down list.
    Severity
    (Required only when distresses are present.) Severity indicates the severity of a distress. You can select a severity option by using the Severity drop-down box in the grid.
    Qty
    (Required only when distresses are present.) The Quantity field stores the length or area of the distress. Type the quantity into the Quantity field in the grid.
