Management Section - PCI

The PCI tab allows you to look at the current PCI value for each management section. PCI or Pavement Condition Index is the measure of the condition of the given portion of pavement in the management section. The PCI helps establish the extent of repair required, and therefore, enables you to estimate the cost of that repair. Thus, the PCI values for the entire network are instrumental in determining budget needs for pavement maintenance and rehabilitation for your jurisdiction. The PCI tab is illustrated below.

  • The table below contains descriptions of the fields found on this tab.

    Management Section
    Street ID
Street ID is a unique identifier for a road or street.
    Section ID
Section ID is a unique identifier for a portion of a road or street defining a management section.
    Street Name
Street Name displays the full name of the street including Street, Way, Court, etc.
    Mileposts
The Milepost fields indicate the point on the road where the section begins and the point where a section ends.
    Beg. Location
Beg. Location is the point that defines the beginning of the section, usually the name of a cross street or other landmark.
    End Location
End Location stores the point that defines the end of a section, usually the name of a cross street or other landmark.

    Current PCI
    PCI Date
This field stores the date that the pavement was inspected or the date the maintenance or rehabilitation treatment was applied that resulted in this current PCI value.
    Current PCI
The Current PCI has been calculated from either a visual inspection or a maintenance treatment.
    Visual PCI
The Visual PCI check box is used to identify PCI values that have been determined based upon a visual inspection. If this check box is blank, then the PCI is based on a maintenance treatment that has been applied to the management section.
    PCI High Value
PCI High Value is the maximum PCI value for an inspection unit used in the last PCI calculation for the management unit.
    PCI Low Value
PCI Low Value is the minimum PCI value for an inspection unit used in the last PCI calculation for the management unit.
    PCI High - Low > 25
This field contains a mark in the check box if the difference between the high and low inspection unit PCI values in the section are greater than 25.
    Special Unit
This checkbox is checked if this section contains a special inspection unit that is in some way non-representative of the section as a whole which would receive a different maintenance/rehabilitation treatment from the rest of the section. This field is left blank if the section is not a special unit.
    # of Inspect Units
    # of Inspection Units displays the number of inspection units that was used to calculate the PCI value.
    % Load Related
This field displays the percent of the distress deduct values that is load related.
    % Environment
This field stores the percent of the distress deduct values that is environment related.
    % Other
% Other is the percent of the distress deduct values that is not either load related or environment related.
    Comments
Comments stores additional comments that have been entered by a user related to this inspection.
The Extrapolated Distresses grid shows the type, severity, quantity, and deducts for each distress reported for the current PCI of the management section.
    Distress type
Distress type contains the type of distress found on the section of a road.
    Severity
Severity contains information about how extreme the distress is on the section of road. This information will either be Low, Medium, or High.
    Area
Area contains the expected area of each distress found on this section in square feet.
    Deduct Value
Deduct Value shows the value that is deducted from 100 to derive the PCI based upon distress type, severity and quantity.
