Combine Sections

Adjacent road sections on the same road may not be homogenous; that is, the surface type, functional classification, number of lanes, or other characteristics, are not the same throughout the sections. If two adjacent sections become homogenous, the sections should be combined.

When the Combine Sections option is selected, the Combine Management Sections screen displays. This screen is illustrated below.

The buttons that are available for use on this screen are explained below.

Select Section moves a highlighted section from the List of Management Sections box to the Management Sections to be Combined box.

Deselect Section moves a highlighted section from Management Sections to be Combined to List of Management Sections.

Deselect All Sections moves all of the sections from the Management Sections to be Combined to List of Management Sections.

Cancel exits the Combine Management Sections screen and returns you to the StreetSaver main menu screen without combining any sections.

Next takes you to the next step in the combine process.

After you select the management sections that you want to combine, click on the Next button. The following screen appears.

  • The top portion of this screen contains a grid labeled Management Sections to Combine. This is a read-only grid containing the following fields.

Data Valid The Data Valid field indicates whether or not the characteristics of a section match the characteristics of the first section in the grid. One or more entries in this column may appear with a marked No radio button and a yellow background. If an entry has a yellow background, somewhere in that row there will be a field that has a red background. The field with the red background indicates where the invalid data is located.
Street ID Street ID indicates the identifier that has been assigned to a street. The Street ID field should contain the same values for all sections that are going to be combined.
Section ID Section ID indicates the identifier that has been assigned to each current management section.
Begin Location Begin Location stores a description of the beginning point of each current section. This may be the name of a cross street or other landmark.
End Location End Location stores a description of the ending point of each current section. This may be the name of a cross street or other landmark.
Surface Type Surface Type displays the surface type of each current to a management section.
Functional Class Functional Class displays the functional class of each current management section.

Lanes Lanes indicates the number of lanes in each current section.
ADT ADT is an optional field giving average daily traffic in number of vehicles traveling in both directions over a particular section of road.

Street ID Street ID is the identifier for the new section.
