Adjacent road sections on the same road may not be homogenous; that is, the
surface type, functional classification, number of lanes, or other
characteristics, are not the same throughout the sections. If two adjacent
sections become homogenous, the sections should be combined.
When the Combine Sections option is selected, the Combine Management Sections
screen displays. This screen is illustrated below.
The buttons that are available for use on this screen are explained below.
Select Section
moves a highlighted section from the List of Management Sections box to the
Management Sections to be Combined box.
Deselect Section
moves a highlighted section from Management Sections to be Combined to List of
Management Sections.
Deselect All Sections
moves all of the sections from the Management Sections to be Combined to List
of Management Sections.
Cancel
exits the Combine Management Sections screen and returns you to the StreetSaver main
menu screen without combining any sections.
Next
takes you to the next step in the combine process.
After you select the management sections that you want to combine, click on
the Next button. The following screen appears.
The top portion of this screen contains a grid labeled Management Sections to
Combine. This is a read-only grid containing the following fields.

Data Valid
|
The Data Valid field indicates whether or not the characteristics of a section
match the characteristics of the first section in the grid. One or more
entries in this column may appear with a marked No radio button and a yellow
background. If an entry has a yellow background, somewhere in that row there
will be a field that has a red background. The field with the red background
indicates where the invalid data is located.

Street ID
|
Street ID indicates the identifier that has been assigned to a street. The
Street ID field should contain the same values for all sections that are going
to be combined.

Section ID
|
Section ID indicates the identifier that has been assigned to each
current management section.
|
|
Begin Location
|
Begin Location stores a description of the beginning point of each
current section. This may be the name of a cross street or other landmark.
|
|
End Location
|
End Location stores a description of the ending point of each current
section. This may be the name of a cross street or other landmark.
|
|
Surface Type
|
Surface Type displays the surface type of each current to a management
section.
|
|
Functional Class
|
Functional Class displays the functional class of each current
management section.
|
|
Width
|
Width displays the width of each current management section in feet.
|
|
Year Constructed
|
Year Constructed indicates the year each current section was built.
|
|
Traffic Index
|
Traffic Index is an optional field representing traffic volume/type, using the
CALTRANS traffic index scale for each current section
|
|
Lanes
|
Lanes indicates the number of lanes in each current section.
|
|
ADT
|
ADT is an optional field giving average daily traffic in number of vehicles
traveling in both directions over a particular section of road.
|
The bottom of the screen contains a series of fields that allow you to assign
new characteristic values to the combined road section. These fields are
defined below.

Street ID
|
Street ID is the identifier for the new section.
|
|
Section ID
|
Section ID indicates the identifier that has been assigned to the combined
management section. The section ID for the combined section must be unique for
the street. You cannot use an ID that was assigned to one of the sections
being combined.

Street Name
|
Street Name contains the name of the street where the management section is
located and must remain the same or be selected from the drop down menu.
|
|
Begin Location
|
Enter the beginning point of the new section. This
may be the name of a cross street or other landmark.
|
|
End Location
|
Enter the ending point of the new section. This may
be the name of a cross street or other landmark.
|
|
Surface Type
|
Select the appropriate surface type for the new management
section from the drop down menu.
|
|
Functional Class
|
Select the appropriate functional class for the new
management section from the drop down menu.
|
|
Width
|
Enter the width of the new management section in feet.
|
|
Date Constructed
|
Enter the date the section was built.
|
|
Traffic Index
|
Enter the traffic index for the new section if used.
|
|
# of Lanes
|
Enter the number of traffic lanes in the new section.
|
|
ADT
|
Enter the average daily traffic in number of vehicles
traveling in both directions for the new section if used.
|
This screen also has User Defined Fields.
After you fill in information into all the required fields on this screen,
click on the Finish button to complete the combining of the management sections.
If you decide not to combine the selected management sections, click the Cancel
button to quit the Combine Sections utility or, click the Back button to return to the
previous screen.
