User Week:

Summer 2010 July 26 through 29, 2010


User Week is a combination of activities intended to act as a forum for StreetSaver® users to learn about new technologies, discuss implementation issues, and receive updates on the status of the Regional Streets and Roads Program. User Week is held three times per year. The 2010 Summer User Week workshops and classes are scheduled for July 26 through 29, 2010. Information for each event is included below. Please R.S.V.P. no later than Wednesday, July 21, 2010 to Kimberly Hughes via e-mail at khughe@mtc.ca.gov if you would like to attend any of these events, please reference "Summer 2010 User Week Registration" in the subject line and specify the event name in your email. There are no fees associated with User Week classes.

Technology Transfer Workshop: Ashphalt Pavement Management

Instructor(s): Roger D. Smith, Asphalt Pavement Consultant
Asphalt Pavement Consultant - Mr. Smith has extensive experience in asphalt technology. For many years he worked at Caltrans, where he conducted pavement research and managed the asphalt testing lab. He also served as a field engineer for the Asphalt Institute, where he assisted and trained users and producers of asphalt products. He was also the Executive Director of the Northern California Asphalt Producers Association (NCAPA). He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech.

Overview: Learn how to save time and money by extending the service life of asphalt pavements through proper maintenance and repairs. This 4-hour Road Show focuses on the asphalt materials, equipment, construction details, safety, maintenance and repair practices to enable your crews to do proper pavement maintenance. Topics include: types and causes of pavement problems; maintenance vs. rehabilitation; asphalt materials review and safety considerations; crack sealing; AC patching; and surface treatment options, including fog seals, chip seals and slurry seals.

Class size is limited to 50 people . Reservations required.

General Users Meeting & PMP Awards Luncheon

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Pavement Management Program will be hosting a complimentary lunch on the MetroCenter patio, after the Technology Transfer workshop. So stick around and enjoy mingling with your jurisdictional colleagues.

The Awards Ceremony will begin after lunch, at the start of the General Users Meeting.

Awards to be presented include:

Pavement Distress Survey

Overview: The goal of this course is to provide skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Identify seven pavement distresses collected/entered into the MTC StreetSaver® software
  • Identify inspection units used for pavement inspections
  • Learn techniques to ensure quality inspections of pavements
  • Perform actual surveys of an AC pavement section
  • Calculate the PCI for an inspection unit
Required materials: Please bring a safety vest, measuring wheel, calculator, clipboard, and your Pavement Condition Index Distress Identification Manual for Asphalt and Surface Treatment Pavements (small flip book you received with the software).

Class size is limited to 35 people (2 people/consultant). Reservations required.

Conference

This conference series is designed to keep MTC users abreast of the basic functionalities and features, development news, and principles of pavement management of the StreetSaver software. However, we highly recommended users come to the User Week in Oakland.
